To test the battery of a smartphone, we’ll charge it to 100%, use the calibrator to set the brightness to 170cd/m2 and then play a looped video in flight mode until the battery runs out. This gives us a figure that can be compared across models, but to assess real-world longevity, we track how long the battery lasts on average during our testing period. And the specs are top notch, too, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC and a massive 12GB of RAM. There’s no microSD slot support, and battery life could be better, but if you’ve got the budget, this is a fabulous foldable. A business smartphone doesn’t always have to mean premium, and there are some cheaper devices out there that fit the bill just fine. The ‘Lite’ version of the Oppo Find X3 Pro, for instance, is about as good as budget buys can be.
Ultimately, I think Apple users will get a lot out of the iPhone 12 series. And with prices starting from £699, perhaps these phones might convince even a few Android diehards to jump ship. Since OnePlus first entered the Western market a few years back, it has been all about outperforming the flagships from Apple and Samsung by offering more and better new features than they have been able to. This one is a great option for older users as it works with hearing aids and includes Doro’s advanced ”response” button on the back of the handset. One press and it’ll call up to five numbers one after another and send a text message to them all too. This clever feature makes it ideal for anyone needing to call for emergency help from family members. Every time I deal with the staff at Clove for whatever reason, they are always professional, knowledgeable and helpful.
Add a gorgeous screen, stacks of power (yes, it’s last-gen, but it’s still strong), fast-charging that’s still quicker than Samsung’s best, and you’ve got one seriously capable Android phone here. Plus it’s cheaper than the newer OnePlus 10 Pro, which is twice the reason to consider buying. Not only that, the Pixel 6 Pro’s camera is astounding for point-and-shooting in all conditions – it’s just a shame there’s no zoom on board. There’s Google’s own processor, too, called Tensor that’s super fast and crunches through images and tasks with such ease.

Everybody else should marvel at how Xiaomi has made this wonder available for just £624 excluding VAT. However, the simple fact is that in most cases, Android and iOS are equally capable for business users. This means, that if you bought a new phone today you would want it to still be perfectly functional in two to three years’ time, right? That sounds fairly reasonable, especially if your finance plan runs two to three years. If you’re thinking… hmmm… all these UMiDigi phones are starting to seem very similar. On paper, the UMiDigi F1 Play seems to offer everything the S3 Pro while costing 40% less. Look a little closer though and you’ll find some key differences between the two models. The silver lining is that the lower resolution OLED panel consumes less energy, pushing the 4150mAh 18-watt fast charge battery even further while still keeping the weight under 200g. The UMiDigi X features an in-display fingerprint reader as well as an OLED display.
Since growing beyond its original “flagship killer” moniker, OnePlus has become a reliable alternative to the big Android hitters – in particular, the best Samsung has to offer each year. The OnePlus 9 Pro (from £801) is no different – offering many of the top-tier flagship features you expect from an Android flagship at a price that undercuts tough competition like the Galaxy S21 Ultra. 120W charging is, undoubtedly, the star of the show – blowing, even, 65W charging out of the water. While 65W charging is plenty fast, it doesn’t change how you charge – with topping up your phone on a nightly basis still seeming like the easiest thing to do. With 120W charging, feel free to just charge whenever you have a typically phone-free moment – from cooking some food to going in the shower – do this and the superspeed should keep you going another day. As a point and shoot phone, the Galaxy S21 does an amazing job – it will make the average user produce snaps far better than what you might expect.

It’s worth mentioning that there’s no NFC and the fast charge, well, isn’t that fast, but all-in-all, it’s a solid device that’s priced firmly in the budget. The best thing about the Nothing Phone is its unique design, which features a transparent back and a lot of glyphs.
